CDP 1st Dist of CDO stands for the environment
Cagayan de Oro City, December 13, 2013 :
The officers and members of the 1st
District of Cagayan de Oro City’s Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines
(CDP) make it their official and public stand to oppose the coal-mining
operations in Misamis Oriental which affects directly Cagayan de Oro City
residents as far carbon emission is concerned which was unanimously approved by
everyone present during their district and strategic planning held December 13,
2013, at the Coffeeworks, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City.
Ralph Vincent T. Abragan, a CDP member of the district and
Chairman of Save CDO Movement, a civil organization interested in good
governance shared to the group his advocacy against the recent issue on coal
mining operations which will affect the residents of Misamis Oriental and
Cagayan de Oro City. Ken S. Madlos, a media practitioner and the political
communications officer of the district, cites likewise his open and vocal stand
against coal mining. Engr. George P. Zaragosa, an undefeated Barangay Councilor
of Bulua, likewise expressed his stand against coal mining although as an
Electrical Engineer by profession he had also seen the cheap cost of power
generation of coal as energy source but emphasized that the damage to be
brought by coal mining is highly hazardous to the people and environment.
District Chair, Lorelyn Galarrita Turtosa-Dumaug found the
said discussion a good ground for an official stand as she herself is making a
stand against coal-mining operations. All members present in said meeting was
amenable to continue our being member of the multi-sector group in the city,
the SULOG which jointly takes active stand in protecting the environment. “We
stand for our environment; let us keep our city and Misamis Oriental free from
harmful effects of carbon emissions caused by coal-mining operations.” she says further.
CDP’s chapter in CDO 1st Dist will continue to make its presence felt
in the city by recruiting more members, to facilitate trainings to elected barangay
officials, among other engagements and live by the platform the party brings and
make all members take part in discussions and deliberations of issues.
