NO to Coal Mining in Misamis Oriental


CDP 1st Dist of CDO stands for the environment

Cagayan de Oro City, December 13, 2013:  The officers and members of the 1st District of Cagayan de Oro City’s Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines (CDP) make it their official and public stand to oppose the coal-mining operations in Misamis Oriental which affects directly Cagayan de Oro City residents as far carbon emission is concerned which was unanimously approved by everyone present during their district and strategic planning held December 13, 2013, at the Coffeeworks, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City.

Ralph Vincent T. Abragan, a CDP member of the district and Chairman of Save CDO Movement, a civil organization interested in good governance shared to the group his advocacy against the recent issue on coal mining operations which will affect the residents of Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City. Ken S. Madlos, a media practitioner and the political communications officer of the district, cites likewise his open and vocal stand against coal mining. Engr. George P. Zaragosa, an undefeated Barangay Councilor of Bulua, likewise expressed his stand against coal mining although as an Electrical Engineer by profession he had also seen the cheap cost of power generation of coal as energy source but emphasized that the damage to be brought by coal mining is highly hazardous to the people and environment.

District Chair, Lorelyn Galarrita Turtosa-Dumaug found the said discussion a good ground for an official stand as she herself is making a stand against coal-mining operations. All members present in said meeting was amenable to continue our being member of the multi-sector group in the city, the SULOG which jointly takes active stand in protecting the environment. “We stand for our environment; let us keep our city and Misamis Oriental free from harmful effects of carbon emissions caused by coal-mining operations.” she says further.

CDP’s chapter in CDO  1st  Dist will continue to make its presence felt in the city by recruiting more members, to facilitate trainings to elected barangay officials, among other engagements and live by the platform the party brings and make all members take part in discussions and deliberations of issues.

CDP's 1st Dist of CDO Held Stratplan 2014

December 13, 2013, Cagayan de Oro City.

The District Council of the 1st District of Cagayan de Oro City of the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines (CDP)- Ang Partido ng Tunay na Demokrasya held its annual strategic planning today, December 13, 2013 at the Coffeeworks, Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City.

The District Chairwoman, Ms. Lorelyn Turtosa-Dumaug facilitated the said strategic planning as officers of the council and some members enthusiastically shared their point of views and plans. Ms. Dumaug opened the meeting by asking the members present of the reasons why they joined the CDP and in summary there are at least four (4) common answers shared by the group: 1. to become agents of changing political landscape; 2. a passionate and heroic acts for the country; 3. be part of a dynamic and cohesive political party sharing common values and principles; and 4. to multiply themselves in the area by making more local residents understand what CDP stands for.

The meeting which comprised with concrete plan of actions and activities to bring about the desired goals ended with a firm resolve from members to expand and be embodiment of the CDP's value on human dignity in the manner that is different and serves as light that would have the capacity to attract like-minded Filipinos who are in need of legitimate and authentic changes to make Cagayan de Oro City and Philippines in general, a better place to live as this national political party with chapters across the country are filled with Filipino citizens wanting change in governance and the consequence improvement of public service. .
